Sub groups 2 & 8 --finally

Every time I sit down to do this, I get interrupted. But here I am, determined to record what transpired last week in my two subgroup meetings:

period 2, November 18:

We met in the PDL lab in an attempt to create more hands-on experiences. There was a lot of discussion about tying artifacts to course objectives, and the differences between objectives (what you hope your students will be able to do) and course expectations (how you expect them to behave to be successful). I created an objective page for my French 5 class that addresses the curriculum for the course as well as ERICK and contains UbD-ish essiental questions. It is in English, and you can view it by clicking here.

We also practiced opening the sample folder created for students and learned how to help students in the creation of their course pages.

Period 8, November 19:

In this group, conversation went along similar lines, but I was ready with examples of objectives and artifacts, so it went a little more quickly and we were able to spend more time with the student pages. Again, we discussed the collecting, selecting, reflecting process, and realized that in order for the students to have something to collect, we need to create artifacts tied to objectives and have them all saved in their network folders. This seems to be happening! Hooray!

And thanks to both groups for their intelligent input and earnest efforts. It is a true pleasure for me to work with all of you.

Finally, the need for PD on the creation of Multi-media projects came up. It will happen, but exactly when and how is a little up in the air. Perhaps a needs assessment survey....
