Period 7 Sub Group Meeting Notes/Thoughts (1/12/09)

Our last meeting of the semester focused on reflection. We used the following documents to help us, not to mention a great energizer, courtesy of Lew Grower:
Like Chad below, we absolutely wanted to discuss the difference between self-evaluation and self-reflection. We asked, too, of course what is reflection? What does it look like? Shouldn't it be written? Doesn't it focus on process, too? In what ways does it measure growth? Growth of what exactly? While a reflection seems to include higher order levels of thinking, what are those levels? How does synthesis fit into reflection? Shouldn't a reflection include assumptions one has about learning? How does one structure metacognitive reflective questions? Questions kept flowing.

One thing is clear, we need to continue this discussion, for we did recognize the myriad ideas about reflection, so our school should develop some shared understandings about it.
