Period 3 ePort 10/14 Mtg

ePort summary:
  • student is responsible for tracking own growth as a learner over time
  • a collection of student's work (artifacts) that meets ERIC and course standards
  • reflections refer to students work as evidence of working toward standards
  • use of web 2.0 and other technologies constitute a new genre (ePort)
Year-end Expectations:
  • students create at least one artifact
  • students reflect on that work and their growth as a learner
Our (meeting) Process:
  • develop skills with specific Web 2.0 tools
  • develop lessons to incorporate tools (not just add them on)
  • share lessons and tools for feedback from the group
  • create own teacher ePort to learn how to students will create theirs
  • share Professional ePorts for feedback from the group
Next meeting: Post blog comments.

A resonable year end goal for this group would be to produce our own e-port, containing data from our e-port PD, our early PD Days curriculum revisions, eventual Tribes activities, therefor creating a tangible product to share with administration demonstrating our professional growth this school year.

Eportfolio is an educational reality. Haven't blogged since 2007
project with kids on genocide. This is more uplifting.

Eport can be a valuable tool to show students growth over the 4 year high school span. Resources and time for the teacher to impletement is necessary.

Hi everyone. I am very interested in learning how to develop a blog to develop literacy skills for my students so they can communicate with each other. Does anyone have any ideas on how to use a blog????? I would love ideas on how to use a blog and develop lessons on how to uase them. If I could do this i would feel accomplished

From my perspective as media specialist, SWHS needs to make sure that our students are ready for researching and analyzing information as part of the research process. I would like to see if Web 2.0 tools could be used in this process.

If eport or other cohorts are to be placed on the back burner, then I will find the time to make work what needs to work given the time we have built into the 8 period schedule. I would like that work to include those teachers that I teach science with and any other teachers interested in working on web pages or eportfolio in their disciplines.

I do see how e-port can work within our cucrriculum writing. I am not sure that we have to meet as frequently and maybe we need to have cohorts that are more like mentors/mentees. We can create a couple of artifact worthy activities within our curriculum writing. There was talk that we do not challenege students enough maybe this is part of the challenge that we put on students. They need to archive and reflect and eventually present their growth. And this could be put into our curriculum maybe only with mentor/mentee work, not another cohort meeting.
