Teachers shared their goals for the year. Some teachers who have already created lessons with artifacts are going to be focusing on reflections or aligning artifacts with course objectives. Others will be using their newly created websites to find innovative ways to help struggling students create artifacts. In particular, special ed teachers will be using a program called Naturally Speaking to help students who have difficulty writing to express themselves using technology.
Concerns:
- lab time-- we recognize that the lab situation is insufficient and talked about ways to deal with it, among them, making sure that each lab session is devoted to a short attainable task. Things that students can reasonably be asked to do outside of class time should be handled that way whenever possible.
- the enormity of the task--we need to counsel each other in not taking on too much
- the expectations: what do we have to do at the end? Making measurable progress towards a goal is key. Not everyone is at the same place now, nor are they expected to be at the end.
New: Instructions for students to connect to Contribute
Reminder: Log your hours!!
Next time: we will come with one idea for a lesson that would generate an artifact and help each other develop the idea
There was a request for PD on posting student grades to web pages--McKenna will find a common time to meet with interested teachers
