period 8 subgroup Feb 23

Back from vacation was a rude awakening for some! A few of us did manage to meet period 8 and were able to go over some individual concerns. By the end of the year, each member will have presented a lesson with artifact to the group for feedback and discussion. We have set up the beginnings of a schedule and it goes like this:

March 17 ??
March 30 ??
April 9 --Heather
April 29 --Sarah
May 11 --??
May 21--Larry
June 3 --Theresa
Many teachers are involved with video projects and some tips are emerging:
  • the cam corders need to be fairly near the students when they are making a presentation, otherwise the audio is not good enough
  • it is a good idea to have someone film rather than using the tripod so that they can zoom in on individual speakers, pan the audience, etc, and that helps with the audio also.
  • you need to consider the lighting when filming a projected presentation--if it is too dark, the students cannot be seen

We are continuing with video editing help and anyone who has some footage they would like to edit should see me during there PD time for help.

The possibility of images or graphs accompanied by student audio narration to create an "enhanced podcast" is a good option for certain artifacts. I will be working with Heather using Geometer's Sketch Pad (or is it Geometry Sketch Pad??) to try this out.

I guess that's all for now!

Oh, and my updated list for period 8 includes:
Battaglio, Bojarski, Gutcheon, Wolff, Mortensen, G. Carlson, Davagian, Gray, Wadsworth and Simison (?) If this is wrong, please let me know!
